003. Subtle

Normally, he wouldn’t have pushed quite so hard to get to know a person, but there was just something about Lucy that he seemed drawn to. She seemed different than every other girl he’d known. Okay, maybe that was a little much to say after talking with the girl for a total of fifteen minutes in the past three weeks, but he’d never felt compelled to try so hard to get someone’s attention before. He’d never been given reason.

But Lucy, she was different. There were so many things she did, so many subtle traces of hope that seemed to capture a childish sparkle in her eyes. It was the way she seemed to look for the good in everything. She tried to seem indifferent, but you could tell that everything and everyone around her had some sort of impact on her. There was something about her that made him want to be better, that pushed him to try harder.

And this was the first time in a long time that Sky could remember falling asleep and having pleasant dreams. Dreams that he would never tell anyone about, nonetheless, but pleasant dreams all the same. He’d never cared so much what another person thought about him as he did now…well almost never. And he was determined to prove, even if it was just in the subtleties, the small things that seemed to catch her attention, that he was worth her time. Sky wanted to prove that he wasn’t just another guy.
